Kentucky Lake is a reservoir in Tennessee, near Hardin County.
Stocking records show that the following fish or strains were stocked here. A historical stocking does not by itself prove that a self-sustaining population remains today.
Kentucky Lake is the largest reservoir in the TVA system, covering about 160,300 acres along the Tennessee River. More than 108,000 of those acres lie in Tennessee. The lake supports largemouth and smallmouth bass, black and white crappie, blue, channel and flathead catfish, sauger, white bass, bluegill and a long list of river species.
The Tennessee River channel, major creek channels, broad flats, shell and gravel bars, roadbeds and summer ledges define most of the fishery. TVA also draws the reservoir down in winter, so the shoreline and shallow cover available in spring can look very different by late fall.
Bass can be caught shallow in spring with spinnerbaits, crankbaits and soft plastics, then shift toward river ledges and channel structure as summer develops. Crappie respond to minnows and jigs around brush, stake beds and creek-channel structure, with trolling and drifting becoming more important when fish suspend.
Fresh cut bait is a strong blue- and channel-catfish choice along the Tennessee River channel. Sauger and white bass use current and channel structure, where jigs, spoons and small shad-patterned lures can be productive.
Pick one major creek or one stretch of Tennessee River ledges before launching. If fish are shallow, stay in the creek. If the bite fades, work toward the creek mouth and main river rather than making a long run across the reservoir.
