Range and Identity
The inventory retains Morone chrysops x Morone saxatilis. Name order does not by itself determine the maternal parent. Missouri hatchery practice uses female Striped Bass and male White Bass, a documented production method that should remain geographically qualified rather than becoming the meaning of every abbreviated label.
Habitat and Behavior
Reservoirs and tailwaters are prominent habitats. Fish may gather beside strong current, near tributary mouths or where water is entering a reservoir. Gizzard shad are important prey in Missouri accounts, alongside other fishes, crustaceans and aquatic insects.
Food and Life History
The agency upper weight interval is a regional reference, not a newly certified maximum for every stocked population. Broken horizontal stripes and a deep body help identification, but should be considered with other features. Reproductive and stocking claims require the relevant population context.
Field Note
Use tackle appropriate to a strong hybrid fish when fishing a mixed White Bass population. Keep any hatchery or stocking information with unusual size records and parentage determinations.
