Lake Hamilton was created by Carpenter Dam on the Ouachita River. Entergy says the dam was completed in 1932, and the lake was named for Hamilton Moses, a longtime Arkansas Power & Light attorney and executive. Hamilton and neighboring Lake Catherine are part of Entergy's federally licensed Carpenter-Remmel hydroelectric project, so power generation is baked into the history of both lakes.
