Cornell Flowage

Cornell Flowage is one of the reservoirs mapped in Chippewa County and the physical record currently shows about 897 acres and a maximum depth of 55.7 feet, and that is the kind of basic information I actually want before fishing somewhere new.

The lake itself

I would start with a few obvious areas and make the lake prove I need more and I would make the opening plan about one shallow area, one stretch of cover, and one deeper break and I would give the fish a chance to show me whether they want shallow cover or nearby depth.

Fish to think about

The water-specific species list for Cornell Flowage includes Black Crappie, Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Lake Sturgeon, Largemouth Bass, Muskellunge, Northern Pike, and Pumpkinseed, plus 3 more; which is enough for me to plan around weeds, wood, rock, or docks for bass and points, breaks, and wind-pushed edges for walleye, and use the first few bites to narrow the plan.

Where I would put my time

For the opening trip to Cornell Flowage, I would fish a few sensible areas, remember where the life is, and stop forcing a pattern that is not there, and I would make a quick regulation check part of the trip plan, not an afterthought at the ramp.
