Fish species in Lynx Lake

Official stocking history

Stocking records show that the following fish or strains were stocked here. A historical stocking does not by itself prove that a self-sustaining population remains today.

Lynx Lake is a reservoir in Yavapai County, Arizona and covers about 55 acres, reaches about 59 feet at its deepest point and holds roughly 2,764 acre-feet.

Lynx Lake is compact enough to fish slowly, but a change in weeds or bottom can still split it into separate patterns. Deep water at Lynx Lake gives fish room to move away from shore as summer heat and bright light build.

Fish and Baits

Fish listed for Lynx Lake include Largemouth Bass, and Rainbow Trout.

Start the largemouth bass search on Lynx Lake by trying to work a soft plastic, jig, or spinnerbait around weeds and protected cover.

For rainbow trout, cast a small spoon, inline spinner, light jig, or fly through cool water.

Bluegill, Brook Trout, Brown Trout, Channel Catfish, Gila Trout, and White Crappie have also been stocked here; that proves fish were released, but it does not promise that they are still common or easy to catch.

How to Read the Water

The first look at Lynx Lake should cover this: use wind as a clue; a light push can carry food toward a bank, but hard wind may muddy it, so look for a clean edge near a point or protected pocket.

Season by Season

A useful start on Lynx Lake is simple: shallow water is worth a careful look in spring and again during fall; bright summer days favor shade, weeds, or deeper breaks; under ice, a small depth change can be more useful than a long move.

A Simple Tackle Plan

While learning Lynx Lake, a light spinning setup, thin line, a few light spoons, inline spinners, and jigs cover the listed trout; carry one slightly heavier setup when other fish or windy water call for more control.

When the bite is slow on Lynx Lake, record the wind, water color, productive depth, and cover after a bite; those four notes are more useful on the next trip than a long list of spots that did not produce.
