Southwestern Range
The native account includes upper Gila waters in Arizona and New Mexico and the San Pedro system extending toward northern Sonora. Historical and modern records need their dates preserved. A broad native range should not be read as proof that every former locality remains occupied.
Riffle Setting
Adults use rocky riffles in creeks and small to medium rivers, sometimes among vegetation. The body is elongated and flattened beneath, matching a close association with the stream bottom. Current and the spaces around stones are useful habitat details.
Size and Identity
The compiled maximum is six centimeters total length. This species is Tiaroga cobitis, not an immature example of every larger minnow in the same river. A close view of the head, body and fins, with an exact stream locality, supports identification.
