Fish species in Hempstead Lake

Hempstead Lake completely dried up during the hot, dry summer of 2002. Restocking in 2003 and 2004 rebuilt its warmwater fish community, giving today’s fishery an unusual recent history. Footpaths around this Nassau County state-park lake provide bank access; seasonal park charges may apply.
