Range and Identity
Catostomus commersonii is retained as the species identity. Its broad Canadian and United States range includes many kinds of freshwater. That breadth does not make every unidentified sucker a White Sucker; individual records still require a supported determination.
Habitat and Behavior
Adults occur in settings ranging from rocky creeks to large lakes. Shallow feeding around dawn or dusk is reported, but does not establish an exclusive feeding time for every population. Current, bottom material and the occupied position remain useful details with an observation.
Food and Life History
The upper references are sixty-five centimeters total length and 2.9 kilograms. Young use small planktonic foods, while larger fish feed from the bottom. Spawning scatters adhesive eggs over gravel, and multiple males may attend a female. Lake-to-stream movements apply where those habitats are connected.
Field Note
Keep locality and life stage with feeding or spawning records. A larva in open water and an adult on the bottom can reflect different stages of one species rather than contradictory descriptions.
