Snipe Lake

Douglas County is home to Snipe Lake, a mapped lake with published numbers of about 20 acres and a maximum depth of 20 feet, so you can decide whether to fish it slow or break the day into a few different areas.

A simple read on the lake

I would let the first few spots tell me what kind of day it is going to be and I would make sure I actually fish the best bank cover, any obvious weeds, and the deepest water I can reach before I started digging through the tackle box for a magic answer.

The species on record

For fishing, the current record for Snipe Lake shows Black Crappie, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Pumpkinseed, and Yellow Perch; and that is enough to put some time into weeds, wood, rock, or docks for bass and weeds and easy cover for panfish, and make the first hour useful instead of random.

What I would do first

If I were putting together a simple plan for Snipe Lake, I would make a short plan, fish it honestly, and change areas only when the water gives me a reason, and I would read the current Wisconsin rules once before the trip so there are no surprises.
