I would keep the first trip pretty simple and the first places I would give a fair shot are shoreline cover, weed edges, and the first clean drop away from the bank and once one type of water shows life, I would look for more of the same.
Recorded fish species
On the species side, Mueller Lake currently has Black Crappie, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Pumpkinseed, Walleye, and Yellow Perch on record; which makes it reasonable to try weeds, wood, rock, or docks for bass and points, breaks, and wind-pushed edges for walleye, and avoid chasing a totally different kind of fishing without a reason.
My basic approach
If we were fishing Mueller Lake together, I would bring a couple of dependable baits, fish the best-looking water I can reach, and pay attention to what the first few bites have in common, and I would pull up the current Wisconsin fishing regulations before leaving home.
