Ledge Lake

Ledge Lake is one of the lakes mapped in Oconto County and the best current size-and-depth record is about 35 acres and a maximum depth of 19 feet, and that is the kind of basic information I actually want before fishing somewhere new.

The lake itself

I would start with a few obvious areas and make the lake prove I need more by giving shoreline cover, weed edges, and the first clean drop away from the bank more than a couple of throwaway casts and I would give the fish a chance to show me whether they want shallow cover or nearby depth.

Fish to think about

The water-specific species list for Ledge Lake includes Black Crappie, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, and Yellow Perch; and that is enough to put some time into weeds and easy cover for panfish, and let current conditions settle the details.

Where I would put my time

For the opening trip to Ledge Lake, I would make a short plan, fish it honestly, and change areas only when the water gives me a reason, and I would make a quick regulation check part of the trip plan, not an afterthought at the ramp.
