For a new-to-me lake like this, simple beats clever by working a few easy-to-read spots that give me different depths or kinds of cover because a few careful stops usually teach you more than a pile of random casts.
The fish record for 12 Reservoir needs better exact-water evidence; until we have better data, i would keep species claims off the page, and before worrying about anything fancy.
If I were headed to 12 Reservoir tomorrow, I would choose a few spots that look different from one another and give each one a fair chance, then I would read the current Wisconsin DNR rules so nothing about the trip is based on an old limit.
