Fish species in Lake Tugalo

Lake Tugalo is a 597-acre Georgia Power reservoir on the Georgia-South Carolina line below Tallulah Falls. It stores about 43,000 acre-feet and sits in a steep mountain gorge. Georgia Power limits boats on the Georgia side to 25 horsepower, which helps keep the lake quieter than most reservoirs.

What Makes Tugalo Different

Steep rock walls, deep water and limited shoreline development define the lake. Bass, trout and walleye can all use rocky points, bluff structure and creek mouths.

Bass, Trout and Walleye

Jerkbaits, finesse worms, jigs and small swimbaits work for bass around rocky structure. Trout and walleye can be targeted with live bait, spoons, jigs and trolling presentations in deeper water.

Fishing a Steep Gorge Reservoir

Lake Tugalo's steep gorge walls mean useful depth can sit very close to the bank. I would spend more time on points, bluff ends, creek mouths, and places where the bottom falls away quickly. For bass, finesse plastics and small swimbaits make sense in the clear water, while trout and walleye anglers can use live bait, jigs, or trolling presentations once fish move deeper.

A Practical Tugalo Game Plan

Plan around the horsepower limit and fish methodically. The lake is small but steep, so use electronics to look vertically rather than simply running the bank. Points and creek mouths are the best places to connect shallow water with depth.
