Range and Identity
Cynoscion regalis is recorded from Atlantic Canada toward northeastern Florida. Reports outside the native region should retain their introduced or exceptional context. The species is distinct from other seatrouts and similarly named coastal fishes, whose records should not be combined by common name alone.
Habitat and Behavior
Adults use soft-bottom coastal water and estuaries. Seasonal movements can take fish into estuarine habitats in warmer months and away in cooler conditions. Local exceptions matter, so a fixed movement date or single temperature threshold is not imposed across the entire range.
Food and Life History
The upper references are ninety-eight centimeters total length and 8.9 kilograms, with fifty centimeters as common. These are independent published values. The food account includes fishes and crustaceans, but does not establish a single prey species as the exclusive target everywhere.

Keep capture location and season with a record. A fish found inside an estuary and one taken farther along the coast may represent different parts of the same seasonal habitat pattern.
