The Slender Wenchman

Slender Wenchman is a small western Atlantic snapper known largely from deeper-water collections. Its habitat is less thoroughly described than that of many shallow reef snappers.

Range and Identity

Pristipomoides freemani is recorded along the western Atlantic from the southeastern United States toward Uruguay. This broad geographic outline does not establish equal abundance along every coastline. A collection locality and depth are useful when interpreting a species known substantially through trawl samples.

Habitat and Behavior

Most specimens in the checked account came from relatively deep water near the continental shelf edge. Soft or semi-hard bottom is reported. These collection settings should not be replaced by a shallow coral-reef description simply because other snappers frequently occupy reefs.

Food and Life History

The reported upper length is 23.3 centimeters total length, with twenty-one centimeters as a common reference. An independent maximum weight and detailed feeding or reproductive account are not established in the available summary.

Field Note

Keep depth, location and collection method with a record. Those details preserve the evidence behind the habitat description and distinguish a measured specimen from an unsupported generalization.
