Range and Identity
Lythrurus fasciolaris is recorded from portions of the Ohio basin south toward the Tennessee drainage and the upper Black Warrior system. Historical range descriptions include local losses, so they should not be used as current presence records for every named part of that region.
Habitat and Behavior
Adults use headwaters, creeks and small rivers where water is relatively clear and flowing. Rocky pools and runs offer different positions within the same channel. A pool record does not erase the association with fairly fast stream conditions.
Food and Life History
The reported maximum is 8.6 centimeters total length. Egg laying is documented, but the suggestion of open-substrate spawning in the summary is an inference from related species. It is therefore not presented here as a directly observed reproductive sequence.
