Scientific Name
The inventory retains Gila coriacea, while the federal species account uses Moapa coriacea. These names should remain connected when comparing records. The native range concerns the Muddy River thermal-spring system rather than every warm spring in Nevada.
Spring Connections
The species uses spring pools, small outflows, tributaries and the main river. Young increasingly use flowing tributary habitat as they grow, while larger adults occur in the main channel. A spring-pool-only description would omit important parts of the occupied system.
Conditions and Size
Federal accounts describe clear warm water, often with at least slight current, over varied substrates. The compiled maximum is nine centimeters total length. Keep actual temperature, current and life stage with a record instead of assuming every fish occupies the same pool conditions.
