Range and Identity
Gila robusta is the identity retained here. Colorado basin records provide a clear geographic focus, while older accounts covering additional Mexican systems need their original taxonomic context preserved. The river and identification source matter when related regional chubs have been treated differently.
Habitat and Behavior
Adults occupy rocky runs and pools in streams and rivers of several sizes, with impoundment records as well. This variety does not establish equal use of every habitat within a drainage. Immediate current, bottom and cover remain useful additions to a locality.
Food and Life History
Hybridization with related chubs can further complicate interpretation of individual fish. A maximum length drawn from a broad treatment is not used as a secure limit for every modern population. Independent maximum mass and a detailed breeding calendar require separately supported evidence.
Field Note
Keep a documented hybrid determination distinct from an ordinary species record. Body shape alone may not resolve ancestry among closely related western river chubs.
