River Growth
Adults occur in both lowland rivers and upland tributaries across a broad Indo-Pacific range. Those habitats connect through river systems to coastal waters. A freshwater observation should therefore remain linked to the eel’s marine reproductive stage rather than describing a closed inland life cycle.
Night Feeding
The species is active mainly at night and takes a wide range of animal prey, including crabs, frogs and fish. Local food availability can differ among rivers. A general predatory diet does not imply that every population relies equally on each listed prey group.
Sex and Size
The female maximum reference reaches two hundred centimeters total length, compared with a much smaller male value. A separate published weight reaches 20.5 kilograms. The larger female reference is retained instead of treating the first male size in a summary as the species maximum.
