Western Atlantic Range
Records extend from the Chesapeake region and northern Gulf toward northern South America. Greater Antillean occurrence is reported, while the Bahamas are excluded in the compiled range. These island distinctions should remain visible rather than treating the whole Caribbean as uniformly occupied.
Mud and Salinity
Adults use muddy bay and estuary backwaters, including poor-quality waters, and also occur over freshwater mud. Actual salinity and bottom conditions provide useful context. A record near a river mouth should not be assumed to have the same salinity as the open sea.
Spawning and Size
The species spawns on the bottom. Its maximum reference is fifteen centimeters total length. A full side photograph with head and fins visible supports identification among coastal gobies, while locality helps distinguish genuine range records from assumptions based on a similar common name.
Keep the Island Exceptions
Greater Antilles and Bahamas records are not interchangeable. Preserve the stated geographic scope when describing Lyre Goby distribution.
