Range
The species complex is reported across subtropical seas, with regional subspecies recognized in compiled accounts. Pacific records include waters around Japan and the northeastern Pacific coast. A regional identification should retain the subspecies or source convention when one is provided.
Surface Life
Adults occur near land and islands, including relatively cool portions of the flyingfish range. They can leap out of the water and glide above the surface. This behavior is shared with other flyingfishes, so the glide alone is not a species-level identification.
Food, Eggs and Size
Zooplankton and small fishes are recorded foods. Eggs carry attachment filaments over their surface. The maximum reference is forty centimeters standard length, measured to the tail base, and should not be restated as a total-length measurement.
