Rivers Inland from the Sea
Adults inhabit rivers, and a published collection came from a fast-flowing creek in hilly terrain about 15 kilometers inland. This places the fish beyond the immediate shoreline and shows why inland stream access is relevant to its life history.
Fresh and Salt Water
The species is classified as amphidromous, involving fresh and marine water during development. That is different from assuming it spends its entire life on a marine reef. A freshwater observation is therefore compatible with a fish whose life cycle also connects with the sea.
Size and Identification
The published maximum of 9.5 centimeters includes the tail. Technical descriptions give seven dorsal spines in total and ten soft dorsal rays, alongside other characters. Such counts can support expert identification, while the island, drainage and habitat provide useful context for a photograph.
Inland Does Not Mean Disconnected
An adult found well upstream may still belong to a life cycle linked to the coast. Preserve both the stream locality and its connection to the sea in an observation.
