Official stocking history

Stocking records show that the following fish or strains were stocked here. A historical stocking does not by itself prove that a self-sustaining population remains today.

Long Lake in the northern part of Okanogan County is a lake in Washington and covers about 15.6 acres.

During the last hour of daylight near a narrow cove near visible bait, On a water as small as Long Lake, one weed edge or deeper pocket can hold much of the day’s activity.

Fish and Baits

Fish listed for Long Lake include Brook Trout.

During a return to the best bank near the mouth of a pocket in clear water, Cutthroat Trout, and Rainbow Trout have also been stocked here; that proves fish were released, but it does not promise that they are still common or easy to catch.

How to Read the Water

During a low-light period near a creek-side turn after a cold night, Make one shallow pass and one deeper pass on the same shoreline; that shows whether fish are tight to cover or using the first break.

Season by Season

While using one pass along the first break near the outside weed line near firm bottom, early in the year, protected water and the first warm afternoon can be the best clues; as the water heats up, check deeper edges without assuming every fish is on the bottom; cooling fall water often makes points and firm banks useful again.

A Simple Tackle Plan

During the final pass near a small drop while the water is rising, a light spinning rod, thin line, a few small spoons, inline spinners, and jigs cover the listed trout; carry one slightly heavier setup when other fish or windy water call for more control.

During a warm summer afternoon near a firm-bottom flat near firm bottom, record the wind, water color, depth beside useful cover, and cover after a bite; those four notes are more useful on the next trip than a long list of spots that did not produce.
