Thompson Lake

In Warren County, Thompson Lake is listed as a lake; I would start around one promising starting zone and use that water to read the initial plan before making a longer move. For the first part of the trip, I would stay with one straightforward area near the launch instead of chasing every possibility, because random movement makes unfamiliar water harder to read.

Thompson Lake Size, Maximum Depth and Volume

Exact size and depth measurements are sparse for Thompson Lake, which makes it more useful to judge the scale of the immediate area and keep the first visit flexible until the scale is clearer. A missing measurement is easier to work around on Thompson Lake when I start with one short piece of water and let the first hour decide whether I need more water.

Fishing This Water

There is not much exact-water species information published for Thompson Lake, so I would keep the first outing flexible with one light rod with a jig, spinner, and bait rig and use the first few bites as the beginning of the species list. On Thompson Lake, I would let the first few catches tell me whether to keep the same setup while I judge the first few bites without turning a simple first trip into constant lure rotation.

A Practical Thompson Lake Game Plan

For Thompson Lake, I would spend the opening part of the trip around one easy-to-read section of bank, avoid constant relocation, and rethink depth before changing every bait and make the next move only for a specific reason. Once Thompson Lake produces a useful clue around one promising section of bank, I would use it to decide whether to stay, move, or change depth, which gives the next decision a real reason behind it.
