Flat Lake is a lake in Louisiana, near St. Martin County.
Flat Lake is a lake in St. Martin Parish. On a first trip, I would start with one nearby shoreline stretch and stay there long enough to learn something, because that keeps the day simple while the water is still unfamiliar.
Exact physical measurements are sparse for Flat Lake, so I would keep the first plan modest until I see the water, and I would rather judge the scale in person before making a long run. A better first step is learning the shoreline before building a bigger plan, since I would plan modestly until the size of the water is clear.
Flat Lake does not have a strong exact-water species record to build a detailed target list around, so the practical choice is to let the first catches narrow the plan, and I would rather let the first catches narrow the plan. I would use a simple freshwater kit with a small jig, a worm, and a float, because the goal is to find out what responds before narrowing the tackle any further.
For Flat Lake, I would spend the opening part of the trip around one straightforward starting zone and avoid constant relocation; I would spend more time fishing a promising area than driving around looking for a perfect one.
