Range and Identity
Acanthogobius flavimanus is retained as the scientific identity. Its northwestern Pacific account includes Russian, Korean, Chinese and Japanese waters. Introduced records outside the native area require their own locality history rather than expanding the original range automatically.
Habitat and Behavior
Adults use soft-bottom bays and estuaries, with river occurrence also represented. The actual salinity and connection to coastal water are useful parts of an observation. A river record does not establish an identical freshwater routine for every population.
Food and Life History
The upper reference is thirty centimeters total length, with 14.5 centimeters as common. Eggs are placed at the base of a described branching burrow. A winter-to-early-spring breeding period in a regional account should remain geographically qualified, and no independent maximum mass is supplied.
Field Note
Record the occupied bottom and original identification together. A burrow observation is useful only when connected to the identified fish; similar holes in sediment should not automatically be assigned to this species.
