Range and Identity
Anchoa delicatissima is recorded from the Long Beach region toward Magdalena Bay on the Pacific coast of Baja California. The checked treatment excludes the Gulf of California. Pacific and Gulf localities should not be combined simply because both are near the same peninsula.
Habitat and Behavior
The fish is common in estuaries and backwaters of bays, with occasional records near shores outside bays. It schools in midwater. Survey results from Newport Bay describe a local sampling history, not a universal seasonal abundance pattern for every coastal population.
Food and Life History
The reported maximum is twelve centimeters total length. Another common-size reference uses standard length and is not directly comparable. Reproduction involves spawning in schools, with eggs and larvae in the plankton rather than a guarded nest on the bottom.
