Range and Identity
Nocomis micropogon occurs in selected Atlantic, Great Lakes and Ohio basin waters. Some records outside the core distribution are introduced or possibly introduced. Those histories should remain visible instead of treating every eastern river record as part of an unchanged native range.
Habitat and Behavior
Adults inhabit rocky runs and flowing pools of small to medium rivers. The pool setting can still contain substantial current. A habitat record is more precise when it identifies the occupied channel feature and bottom rather than describing the fish simply as a river minnow.
Food and Life History
The maximum reference is thirty-three centimeters total length, while 13.5 centimeters is given as a common size. The checked summary confirms egg laying but does not establish a detailed breeding sequence or maximum mass. Reproductive details from other chubs are not substituted automatically.
Field Note
Retain the introduction history when known. A valid observation in an eastern river can be informative while still representing a population outside the species’ original distribution.
