Vague references to other oceans are not used to extend this range without a secure locality. The scientific identity helps separate it from other small filefishes.

Floating weeds and flotsam provide important habitat context, including around offshore islands. Young fish are associated with drifting vegetation. A record in open water can therefore reflect shelter and food around floating material rather than a fish detached from all habitat structure.
