The range includes the upper Altamaha and Gulf systems extending from the Apalachicola toward Louisiana, with a gap in the Mobile basin account. Geographic exceptions matter. A broad Gulf Coast label should not fill an explicitly excluded drainage.
Shallow Stream Habitat
Adults occur in shallow runs and pools of creeks and small to medium rivers, chiefly over sand. Mud is also reported in some settings. Record the actual bottom material and current instead of treating every stream reach as identical habitat.
Size and Identification
The compiled maximum is 6.5 centimeters total length. The name refers to Notropis longirostris in the inventory, not to Longnose Dace or Longjaw Minnow. Preserve the head profile, mouth, fins and collection locality when comparing small minnows with similar descriptive common names.
