Parentage
The retained scientific label names Ictalurus punctatus and Ictalurus furcatus as the parents. Cross direction matters in experimental records and hatchery production. Naming the two species without the sexes should not be treated as proof that every reciprocal cross performs identically.

Published aquaculture work examines this hybrid as a production fish, including studies of fillet characteristics under different storage conditions. Such results describe the animals and conditions studied. They do not establish a universal growth rate, flavor outcome or adult size for every hybrid population.
Size and Identification
The maximum length or weight of either parent is not a verified maximum for their offspring. A useful record includes hatchery provenance or other parentage evidence together with the fish’s measurements. Appearance alone can be insufficient when parental traits overlap or vary among individuals.
Keep the Cross Direction
Female-channel and male-blue parentage is documented in production studies. Preserve that direction whenever the origin of a measured hybrid is known.
