Pattern
Pale circles with darker borders cover the body, and three dark marks lie along the lateral line. Crossbars may be visible on the pectoral fin. The pattern is more useful when examined together with body shape and the arrangement of the fins.
Reef Bottoms
Adults occupy sandy areas associated with coral and rocky reefs. The broad range includes places as far apart as eastern Africa, Hawaii and Easter Island. Locality should still be retained because other patterned flatfishes can occur in the same region.
Feeding and Measurements
Fish, crabs and shrimp are recorded prey. The compiled upper length is 51 centimeters, but its measurement convention is unspecified. It is presented that way rather than being converted into a total-length claim. The separately published weight is 1.8 kilograms.
Keep the Measurement Label
A length without a stated convention should remain unspecified. Flatfish measurements should not be silently converted between total and standard length.
