Range and Identity
Fundulus euryzonus occurs in the Tangipahoa and upper Amite river systems within the Lake Pontchartrain drainage. It belongs to the group of topminnows that also includes Blackstripe and Blackspotted Topminnows. A broad band or a similar body shape alone does not establish which species is present.
Size and Weight
The published maximum is 9 cm total length, roughly 3.5 inches. A common length of 5.9 cm is about 2.3 inches. These include the tail fin. A reliable maximum weight was not found.
Habitat and Feeding
Adults occupy the surface close to shoreline vegetation in quiet pools and backwaters. The species is not an annual killifish dependent on a seasonal egg bank. A sufficiently specific feeding study was not verified, so this page does not turn the diet of a related topminnow into an established food list.
